I really like how you draw what you love in the moment. I am making a shift in my drawing interests as well, but I'm starting to feel guilty. My friends and followers know me as the (insert fandom) artist. Deep down I know what I am feeling is silly. Draw what you love! Who cares! I know that is the truth. So my question to you is, what do you do when those thoughts come to your head (if it does)?

Thank you! I've been on tumblr for 10 years and I have come to accept that I will always receive certain messages when I begin drawing a new interest:

"Guess you don't draw X anymore" / "Why did you stop drawing X?" / "Are you ever going to draw X again?" / "I want more X" / "When can we expect more X?" / "We're never going to see X again, are we?"

Though I've emphasized many times that this is my blog for all of my art and all my fandoms, every time I switch interests I am swamped with messages like this 3-4 months afterwards. It's an inevitability, because new folks may have missed that this is a "my current interest" blog, and old folks may not like the new content you're interested in.

At first it really bothered me, because I'd draw like 150 pieces of art for a fandom for 6 months straight, need a break, and the next day people will be like "guess you don't care anymore" like all the art I did wasn't enough.

The reality is: I like the idea of managing one blog for all of my artwork. I like how low-stress it is to have one, singular place I can still use a playground for my interests. I think it's a concept some people have forgotten is an option. Dare we call it a portfolio.

I am aware that the more "modern" way to conduct things, if you want to build an audience, is to have several blogs, each dedicated to one of your interests. But the very thought of managing 100 blogs every time I got a new interest makes my skin crawl and I know it would instantly suck the fun out of it for me.

I don't want to do that. I don't want to "build an audience", I just want to have a fun space for me. There are already so many social media sites out there besides tumblr, and if you're an artist that uploads to more than one, multiplying those by each of your fandoms? Sounds like more work than I want to do.

I can't remember the name of the artist, but I recall a few years ago one of the artists for the show Korra was bombarded with these sorts of messages when they started posting art that wasn't Avatar-related. And they said something to the effect of "I gave 2 years of my life to this show. Let me explore something new." And I'll never forget that. I feel the same way.

The theme of this blog is "my art". That's it. My interests change, sometimes circle back, and change again. And that's ok—that's how artists keep art fun for themselves. Every artist deserves a playground where they can share and connect with other people who are also just as excited about their newest thing. That's the joy of it.

Keeping yourself in a box just because that's what people want or expect you to do is the death of creativity. I am at peace with people unfollowing if our interests don't align anymore. This was never a blog for catering to anyone but myself, and that is ok.

So those messages don't bother me anymore. I know they're coming. I know they will always be there. And, every time, I will find new folks who do want to share in my new interest. I think in many ways I like starting over again. It feels refreshing.

But more than that, I know the importance of keep a space for myself online where I can be as creative and fun and silly as I like, chasing after the latest thing that is making me smile.

2023 Letter.

Here we are again. It’s been a year since my last letter. This is my last post for 2023. I included a bunch of unreleased VP again.

This year has been a rollercoaster in many ways. It’s really easy to focus on the negative because it seems to take up so much space. But it’s important to take some time and think about the positive in life too to get some perspective.

Life is made up of tiny moments of happiness after all. ❤️

The Cyberpunk 2077 community is very important to me. "Stuff" we may or may not agree with is bound to happen no matter where we are, IRL or online. But no matter who you are, in the end we all want the same things; feel like we belong, make connections with people, escape real life for a while, have fun and feel safe.

I'm a broken record lol, but... Without you there wouldn't even be a community whatsoever. Thank you for being part of it and making it fun! ❤️

So, back to reminiscing on 2023...

If you know me, you know I'm a stubborn perfectionist. With that comes pessimism, but I’ve grown and gained a more positive outlook on life, which is something I’m proud of. It's not often I'm proud of something, striving for perfectionism and all, so admitting this is a huge achievement for me. I know I'm always gonna be a perfectionist when it comes to my art though, but that just forces me to be a better artist, so it's not all bad... As long as I don't overdo it, which is something I'm working on. My goal for 2024 is to stop being so hard on myself and upload more to Tumblr. ❤️

I started doing OC gif giveaways this year, and I definitely wanna do more, and not just gifs but VP too. I do these because I want to spread, excuse the cringe lol, happiness and positivity. I love to give back. It gives me purpose in life.

I started modding as well, which I wanted to do for months, but I was too scared because it seemed so complicated... But I did it. I'm proud I went out of my comfort zone for once.

So, Dear Everyone ❤️, once again...

Thank you for sharing your incredible art, writing, cosplay, mods, and the list goes on. I hope 2023 treated you well, if not, let's make 2024 beyond amazing! I want you to know that you make my day better no matter what is happening in my life. The simplest joke in a tag or a simple hi in a DM make me smile and laugh. And if this is how I feel, just know you make other people you've never met before feel this way too. I think that's pretty cool.

One day I might have to leave Cyberpunk 2077 behind, because that's how life goes sometimes. And that’s sad to think about... I’m not ready to put it behind me yet. At the same time it means that this community, and my OCs and yours will always have a place in my heart.

I will never forget you.

Since almost all the art and pictures I come across on Tumblr have no alt text, I figure maybe people don't understand what it's for or know how to use it. Here's an explanation!

What is alt text?

Some people (mostly blind people, but it can be useful for other disabilities too) use programs called screen readers to navigate the computer and read text aloud. That's why pictures need to have a text description (alt text), for the screen reader to read aloud. Alt text is usually hidden and just there for screen readers, though on this site, anyone can click the button in the bottom left corner to access it on any image that has it.

Why is it important?

Alt text makes the internet accessible for anyone using a screen reader. I used a screen reader for a while, so I can tell you how much it sucks to try and use social media only for every post to be like,

"This is the funniest thing I've ever seen!" (image with no alt text)

"This info is so important, everyone please read this!" (image with no alt text)

And then all the responses are agreeing and everyone is having fun and being social, but you can't join, you have no idea what's going on, you're left out of the fun, the cool stuff, the funny stuff, the important stuff, all of it.

How to add alt text?

On this site, when you upload an image, just click the three dots on the bottom right corner and click the option to update image description. You can also add it later by editing the post, if you forget when posting.

What to type?

I'm not the authority on alt text, so I can only give advice based on my experience as a sighted person and what people have told me.

One advice I've seen is to describe it like you're describing it to someone over the phone.

I think a good method is to start by stating the general, then moving onto details. I might start with, "Digital art of an octopus merman," and then go on to describe the pose, the emotion/facial expression, the body, the hair, the colors, the background.

Every screen reader user has different preferences, I've talked to people with completely opposing opinions. But usually someone can move on if they find there's too much description, whereas there's nothing they can do if there's not enough. So I lean toward over-describing.

Additionally, make sure you include anything referenced in your post. If you're just sharing a screenshot of a group of characters, you probably won't describe the shape of each of their noses. But if you say, "I love Bob's nose!" now you should still describe the overall picture but also include the shape of his nose in your description.

That also applies to things like, "This tree looks how I feel." If your alt text just says, "A leafy tree," that doesn't explain the feeling. "A leafy tree that appears to be hunched over with sagging branches, looking tired," is more helpful.

If there's text, include the text. I also like to give context (e.g. screenshot of a tweet). You can even use websites like this one to extract text for you.

Don't just put the word "image." Don't use alt text to credit artists/photographers. Don't use it for jokes, unless the joke is genuinely helping to describe the image.

And remember, trying is always better than not trying, even if your description isn't perfect!

Hiii!! If I may ask a question, when you add noise to your drawings, how big does that usually make the file size? I've noticed that for me it quite literally triples the file size to the point of not fitting in an email and such things, and I've been wondering if I'm maybe doing something wrong :') (I use CSP and save my art in png)

Hey there! I don't work in CSP, but thankfully this is something I can answer since it's the same across all platforms. The main factors that determine how big a file is are: Dimension, DPI, and how much detail (tone, value) you've crammed into those pixels. Noise will fill up the canvas, so there's no way to avoid the file size increase if you want to use it. However! You can always selectively erase some areas to have a cleaner look on your focal points. Patches of clean negative space/color can do the same to help lighten the load.

With that said, It's generally an understood fact of digital art that you'll have a main lossless file (your png), your working file (.psd/.procreate/.whatever file extension you're using in csp), and your display/preview file (a smaller file oft saved out as a jpg) So if you're emailing art to a client, you can always send a preview saved out as a smaller format, and provide a drop box or google drive link, or a number of small temp hosting options to upload a larger file. Depending on the file size, you can use tumblr for that too in a pinch. You can upload a larger png and set it to post privately, then copy the image url over and give to the other person. At least, this used to work... not sure if anything has changed, but it worked in a pinch for me a few times in the past when Gdrive was having some issues. And don't forget, you can always compress the file into a zip/rar if you need to! So tl;dr, you're doing nothing wrong, that's just how digital art files work. If it's a problem when sending the file, there's other options to make sending the lossless full-size file easier and is perfectly common practice with artists. (And thank you so much by the way!! Today only just started but I've had such kind words already that I'm going to tackle today with the fist of a very strong rat.)

You've probably answered this before, but how come you don't upload to deviantart at the same time as tumblr? deviantart is so much easier to use. Easier to keep up with peoples work, and easier to go back and re-read peoples older stuff. Tumblr is jumbled up amongst text posts, and (to my knowledge anyway) there's no search function for images, instead one must manually scroll back in hopes of stumbling across the desired work. Usually I don't even see your uploads on tumblr directly, I usually see it via being shared by other creators who follow you (Such as TC) as I do. You and TC are very much the only reason I even still use tumblr, because I wanna see your newly released work as early as possible. Do keep it up tho regardless of where you upload, I really enjoy the story and I love your art-style of the DP-pokeverse. Have a good one!

DA is like a secondary site that I don't really care about, and I only have it because I know not many people are on Tumblr and in the past I got so many asks about posting on other platforms, so I got fed up and just started using DA. Sure, for some it's easier to view artwork there, but uploading art there isn't the easiest either. With Tumblr, I can put all the comic pages in one post, add all the tags and BOOM I'm done. With DA, If I'm posting a comic, I have to post all those pages and tags individually and if I have a comic thats like 9 to 10 pages like the last one, it takes a while. That's the main reason I post to Tumblr first. The second reason is because I just simply forget to post to DA sometimes, so things end up being there a few days later after I post something to Tumblr. My short-term memory interferes with that, but I'm just so used to uploading on Tumblr.

Ok what’s with some writers forgetting about Marinette’s Asian heritage in some DC Xover fics?? Y’all are really trying too hard to create bio!dad Bruce AUs! We already have his canon wards, at least those other fan writers are more respectful of the canon sources! Heck, the bio fam batfamily from only their universe/source material is infinitely better than the Xover ones any day!

The DC fans be like, “Huh? What’s up with the Damian tags rising? *looks at social media feed but frowns* Wait why is a soft ass show crossing over with DC? WTF is going on?! They don’t even make sense at all!”

Hope you don’t mind me sharing a few opinions from other similar things:

Danny Phantom x other shows fanfics are probably just diet versions of Miraculous crossovers. But the bashing is quite toned down on his parents and canon girlfriend Sam that a portion of the fandom detests. I don’t mind crossover ships since the DP phandom is chill about it but it’s always the miracubitches ruining crossover fics. Funny thing is that Danny’s fans also do the “Protagonist Morality Centric” and coddle him more/treat him better than the Miraculous protagonists’ fans. Strangely he isn’t an abuse victim yet some fans write him as such. I don’t even follow the tags anymore since late 2023 but I’d occasionally share my opinions/criticism when I feel like it, and nobody dogpiled me on AO3! Pointing out various fandom parallels, they aren’t so different in their stans and hatedoms after all. It’s just certain sections of a community being way louder than others. I’m kinda uninterested in it now because DP’s canon is more bearable compared to Miraculous. At least I’d admit that it’s not the best show in history because of said canon and some fans making Danny immune from criticism, treating him like an innocent angel even though he’s got flaws like everyone. Though their canonically released graphic novel really fixed things.

Turning off the mature button on any art site without tag filtering is a regretful decision… even worse on D/A when there’s clearly sus art that deserves to have the mature filter. I feel bad for innocent and good users who are too used to using the site to upload their content… but they really should move somewhere more manageable like tumblr, AO3 or whatever else isn’t uber cultish or volatile.

I mean, I have nothing against that kind of art but those people should’ve just done that on the more mature sites instead of the mainstream sites… I’m guessing they’re too damn lazy to do it… the staff are either too busy with other matters, complacent with it or just don’t care whilst punishing those who did nothing wrong.

Strange thing is, when other people give out similar toned reviews on other series, they didn’t get deleted by TVTropes staff or mass flagged by the stans. Probably because they are secretly biased when it comes to how opinions are said and done. Or maybe my deleted review was a little too “harsh and mean” for their standards. That site has potential for introducing canon content and fanfics for curious internet users, not just people using creative funny terms. But they’re overshadowed by biased staff who’s more worried about silencing harmless opinions rather than making sure people are behaving. The review section should have the 5 star system like other sites so people can sort them out, hence reducing the likelihood of being silenced.

In mid 2022, I tried to create a page for a popular canon divergent fanfic from One Punch Man but that got deleted for “lack of updates/maintenance”. Yet someone else did the same thing and didn’t get whacked in early 2023. Probably because that current version is better written than the old version. Even so, there should’ve been sections for the old and new versions because some readers were ok with the old deleted one. Even if there were Karens fussing a lot with guest reviews (no login needed so that’s bad for inactive fics unlike AO3 ones where guest emails are required not just regular users) about the old version on Fanfiction.Net/FFN. No good deed goes unpunished huh?

Indeed. It doesn’t take much for these maggots to discard everything they know goes on in Adrien’s life. They gotta find or make a way to blame him or fault him and put him on equal scale of all else. Gabriel Nathalie and Tomoe can hold hands destroying him and everyone but somehow people will erupt against Adrien over some minor inconvenience to them. Then they want to find way to auto drag him into a situation to be at fault cause well idk. People are weird.

These people find new ways to even crap on the girl they want to move to Gotham for some reason. I remember scrolling and few of these crossover methfics were for Lila Saltery. Honestly, what are these peeps doing?

People do love choosing when to purge one while turning blind eyes on another or others doing similar to beyond. Seems these people targeting you view you as their real struggle in life. They want to be pissy and triggered and unfortunately higher-ups are lames. The I’m cool with them doing to it but you somehow cause them to commit...

small vent on under the cut, as you can tell im not good at animation, i've barely made some little animations with flipaclip back on the day, but i was never good at it, but this has been stuck on my mind for some time i had to made it so i could sleep in peace.

Im very happy for the little community of followers i have, for the people that has come for a certain fandom, yet stayed anyway. I read all of your tags, and comments, i take screenshots of them and read them cause they make me happy, im very thankful for each one of you both in the art blog and the personal blog, however i cant cover the sun with a finger.

Everthing has been so hateful lately, i dont feel good anywhere. I've come to realize that i dont really fit anywhere, althrough there are places i feel comfier than others, im happy tumblr has come that kind of safe spot, i like uploading art and i like answering questions, but i cant manage to pull myself up together sometimes. I feel good here, but when i turn my back, i just see people picking on other people's art, being mean, disrespectful, disrespecting people's characters, oversexualization, etc. It breaks my mind everytime, and its an unstoppable force.

I dont feel comfortable with my irl circle, i love them, but im not myself. Im not myself anywhere, im not saying it like 'wow im so different!' type of manner, i just feel like a misfit cause everyone else in my world have their feet set on earth. They dont care about me gushing about fictional characters, but for me its a little part of me very few people has accepted. They cannot understand my comfort, and i cannot blame them, im too deep into the internet culture and the selfship that i just cannot blame them for ignoring or raising their eyebrows when i say something stupid about a fictional character.

I want to be kind, but i dont feel kindness going back my way, aswell as i realize that not everyone deserves my forgiveness, they've left me with scars that will stay with me forever, as they keep going with their lives and im stuck in the vortex, blaming myself for not overcoming traumas i didnt know were that deep. I love the fictional characters i always talk about, i love my self inserts, i love doing art, i love the people that has been tagging along in these blogs. We're like 134 followers, and im dead happy about it, honest. But for now, i just want to sleep.

Remember to scream for Palestine, for Congo, for Sudan, Syria, its horrific, please stand by them, use the tiktok filters, use the sounds, spread awareness, keep yourself informed. Share everything you see about these situations, specially tiktok, its the platform everyone is using and the one that makes the most revenue, find creators that do donate to these causes. The premise of the competition is art - of any type, be it literal visual art, music, or writing of any type! The world is your oyster with this one - as long as it's art, it counts. And what is the subject of this art, you may ask? It's Damien, one of the main characters of "Faded"! Now, you might be wondering - how on earth do I create music about Damien? Well - that part is up to you! The only rule is that it has to represent Damien in some way, the rest is up to you <3

To take part in the competition, you need to be part of our audition/fan server on discord - you can join that by either dming our god, Yellow themself (at yellow_hat) or send a direct message right here to me on Tumblr! For those of you who are new here and have no idea what I'm on about, welcome! My name is Joy, and I'm the head scriptwriter for the new and upcoming animated show "Faded" - a show that follows the story of five colourful graffiti artists (Clem, Felix, Damien, Vex and Morika, previously known as Unnamed) in a monochrome world.

Damien is one of these characters. Often affectionately dubbed green boy or the agressive jock by our little discord community, Damien is the kind of person that is always looking for a fight. He's tall, and likes using his height as an intimidation strategy. He's easily angered and doesn't like people telling him what to do. Damien is voiced by our very own Ivy (psst!! If you join the discord server, you'll get the chance to meet everyone who's working on the show!! Isn't that so cool??). 1. Who’s making all the covers? The art has been made throughout the years by a plethora of incredibly talented fan artists, and all cover designs for The Gallavault have been made by me, bee 🐝!* You can find all of the cover designs (with the artist in the file names!) in the Cover Design folder (which I'll be rolling out in individual tumblr posts soon!). *Note that any fics by @suzy-queued have covers made by Deena herself! 2. What if I want to make art for a fic to be included in The Gallavault? HELL YEAH YOU DO! If there’s a COMPLETED fic that you think should be included, please make art for it and we can collaborate on getting it uploaded! I have started a list of fics that I think would make great candidates on The Gallavault: Library List, but feel free to choose your own! 3. What if I want to use my own cover art for my fanfics instead of the ones in The Gallavault? -- Download the Calibre software. -- Import the fic file.  -- Right-click and edit metadata. -- Add cover. -- Right-click and convert book. -- Save the file. -- Send to Kindle. (see Kindle instructions)
